Not Working Out? Try The Crunch – Small Group Training.
8/16/2010

Did you know that over three quarters of people that sign up for gym memberships never use them? That’s right, most people sign up for gym memberships, pay month to month and never go to the gym. All the time, people get sold on the concept of working out and getting into shape to better their health but rarely follow through and get into shape. Many find the answer to their problems by hiring a personal trainer. Personal trainers provide accountability, motivation, and direction to be sure that you are doing the right things to get in shape.

The largest problem is that not everyone can afford a personal trainer. An alternative option to personal training is group fitness classes since they are usually free with a gym membership and always less expensive than hiring a personal trainer. The problem with group fitness classes is that they are not individually catered to you, there is no accountability through an appointment, and being repetitive, people tend to burn out and plateau fast.

Lack of time is the number one reason that I hear from my clients for why they don’t get their workouts in. With busy work schedules, an ideal workout for most is one that is effective but doesn’t require a lot of time in the gym.

The Fitness Connection came up with the concept of The Crunch as an answer to the problem of affordability of personal training and lack of time to work out. Like personal training, you will schedule your appointments during one of our convenient workout times so that you have accountability. You will fill out a health history questionnaire and state your fitness goals so that we know how to individually design your workout. With the guidance of your personal trainers, your workouts progress in intensity as you get into better shape. Your workouts will be different every time to prevent you from burning out and hitting plateaus.

The Crunch is a 30 minute compound set full body resistance training workout. In between exercises you are working other muscle groups while the muscle group you just worked is recovering. This allows for us to concentrate an hour workout into 30 minutes. There will be a maximum of six other trainees during your 30 minute workout. Two trainers will be handling two separate stations that you will rotate to until your workout is complete. Since one trainer will be watching a maximum of three people (many times less, depending on attendance), you will be motivated by your trainer, your form will be corrected and intensity adjusted; just like having a personal trainer. Each crunch workout that you attend will be slightly different than the last so that your body doesn’t get used to repetitive stimulus and plateau, like any great personal training program.

Accountability, motivation, time efficient, variation, and direction to get in shape; The Crunch has it all. For a monthly fee of $150 per month you can schedule up to twelve workouts, a fraction of the cost of a gym membership and personal training. There are no additional facility memberships required and you get to workout in a private studio, away from the crowds of large gyms. If you need 100% of your personal trainer’s attention and you need flexibility with scheduling, then one-on-one personal training is the way to go (we also offer one-on-one "The Crunch" workouts for $35 per half hour workout). If you are looking for an inexpensive, effective alternative to personal training, try The Crunch.

Keep Your Trails Clean!
6/25/2008

This morning I was returning from a bike ride on Aliso Creek Trail when I came across a skunk running scared up the trail with a plastic cup stuck on it's head. Apparently, the skunk was licking out some left over goodness from inside the cup and it's head got stuck in the cup. I can picture it trying it's hardest to get the last little bit from the bottom of the cup not knowing that it's head would go in easier then it would come out. I wanted to help the skunk but I didn't like the thought of getting sprayed (Marisa would have made me sleep in the garage) or getting close to a wild animal that may carry a disease like rabies, so, I left the skunk to it's own devices, hoping it would figure out how to get it's head out of the cup. The moral of the story... don't litter; if the cup was properly thrown away the skunk wouldn't have been in it's predicament.

The Fitness Connection would like to congratulate Ron on getting through his double knee replacement surgery. After working with George for four months pre-operation, Ron had his double replacement knee surgery on December 6th. Ron called George around New Years to thank him for his help pre-operation and give him an update on his health. Ron was already taking short walks. Ron's doctors were surprised at his quick rehabilitation and told him that it was due to his pre-operation exercise at the Fitness Connnection.
